The Goshen News: Hoosier farmers want quick wrap up to trade war

Farmers struggling to turn a profit during President Trump’s ongoing trade war are breathing a sigh of relief thanks to a new plan that will provide $12 billion to offset plummeting prices on soybeans, corn and other commodities.

But even with that promised financial help, many farmers are expressing a strong desire for the administration to wrap up its trade disputes with China, Mexico and other countries sooner rather than later.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Tuesday announced the three-part plan that will borrow money from the U.S. Treasury to pay producers of soybeans, sorghum, corn, wheat, cotton, dairy and hogs.
